Kitchen renovation in an old cottage Broadbottom, Cheshire

Creating a blend of old and new in a gorgeous older house

Dick and Adam wanted to create their dream kitchen. Their vision was to match relatively modern looking kitchen units with bespoke touches of carpentry and woodwork which would pay homage to the old. This being an old mill cottage, there were literally decades worth of gremlins to work through and barely a straight/level edge in sight!

Initially the whole room was stripped back to brick. An old chimney stack in the corner was removed, and structural support installed. All wiring and plumbing was taken care of and the room was fully plastered.

A bespoke cupboard and shelf (complete with countersunk LED lights) was built as a surround for the large American style fridge. This was all made by re-purposing some of the old doors from the house.

Beneath the stairs, the old store cupboard was removed completely, opening up the space to accommodate a breakfast bar-cum-table, complete with USB sockets which created a completely new space for hosting which they didn’t have before.

The kitchen supplied by Factory Kitchens in Glossop looks fantastic in place, and was set off beautifully with some colourful tiling.

This was an extremely satisfying job to complete and one which we are told has transformed the lives of the clients in terms of how they use this space, and the ease and convenience that it brings them on a daily basis.
