A basement kitchen fitting in Broadbottom
We have fitted quite a few kitchens in Broadbottom over the years, and they are never boring! The quirkiness and age of many of the houses often means that no two are the same, and with this house that was indeed the case. As with many houses in Broadbottom, the kitchen here is technically in the cellar, although opens on to a garden at the back.
The main challenge here was shoring up the old chimney breast. Although we love to restore and retain characterful features, in this instance the right thing to do was make it safer and provide a fresh start on the outside, whilst not damaging the original stonework should anybody choose to revisit it in future.
We removed the old kitchen, completely rewired the room, adding new sockets and feature lighting in the chimney breast along the way, before fitting a Howdens kitchen.
The owner is extremely happy with the result. It has retained the cosy cottage quality befitting of a Broadbottom house, whilst making it fresher, brighter, and more practical to use.
